THE X FILES AT KALEIDOSCOPE!

We are delighted to announce another historic first for Kaleidoscope; after several months of negotiation with Twentieth Century Fox Television, we have secured the right to screen the phenomenally successful US science fiction series The X Files at The Main Event in August. This means we will be able to present non-British television material for the first time.

Fox also confirmed to us that we are the first UK event provider to successfully approach them for such a licence. The decision to approve our request for a screening, which went right up to Fox's head offices in Los Angeles, is all the more welcome given the current major crackdown the corporation are pursuing against the continuing abuse and blatant violation of The X Files copyright by some other conventions and events. At least one high-profile British event was recently threatened with prosecution if it continued to screen Fox material illegally, with more set to follow.

The X Files is one of the most popular television series in the world, and looks set to pull a massive audience at The Main Event. Rarely has any programme, from either side of the Atlantic, held such wide appeal to a general audience as well as to its immense fan base. It details the investigations of two FBI Agents, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) into unexplained paranormal phenomena... the cases the Bureau want shoved into the nearest rubbish bin. But Mulder, whose sister Samantha disappeared mysteriously when he was 12, has always been a believer in the paranormal and has made his life's mission the search for "the truth". His faith is balanced by Scully's scepticism; she is a medical doctor from a strict scientific background, and constantly questions Mulder's bizarre theories with the voice of reason and rationality.

This basic premise is handled in great style, with the subject matter, no matter how outlandish, treated in a completely serious and realistic way. The two charismatic leads play entirely convincing, believable characters and the series also features a heady dose of government cover-ups and conspiracy theories, developed in a sophisticated and ever-evolving thread dating right back to the pilot episode. For Scully and Mulder's everyday work is not their only problem. Those who know the truth are out to stop them finding out too much, by any means necessary...

At Kaleidoscope, we will be showing a special extended episode of The X Files, featuring instalments that have yet to be screened on BBC Television, on a forty-foot cinema-size screen with full stereo sound set-up. Given the superb visual style, dramatic music and tremendous atmosphere that the series boasts, this should be a real experience, giving you a chance to see The X Files as it has never been seen before.
