Kaleidoscope Christmas Event and Grand Charity Auction 2007 Review

Kaleidoscope's traditional Christmas Event and Grand Charity Auction took place on Saturday 1st December 2007 at the usual venue, Stourbridge Town Hall, Stourbridge, West Midlands, UK. The event was in support of our chosen charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Our varied Christmas schedule had something for everyone. Music fans were well catered for, with seasonal extracts from vintage Top of the Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test, plus a complete edition of Noel Edmonds' Swap of the Pops from Christmas 1977. Other highlights included The Little Matchgirl, a sad festive tale from Hans Christian Andersen, and something for the kids with Metal Mickey and Educating Marmalade. We travelled back in time to Christmases from decades past in Crossroads and Shine on Harvey Moon as well as enjoying special tributes to Christmas continuity, advertising and the BBC Christmas globes.

The Kaleidoscope Grand Charity Auction 2007 featured items donated by our guests, supporters and attendees throughout the year, with all proceeds donated to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution once again. Highlights included the chance to win items signed by Alan Plater, Patrick McGoohan and Michael Mackenzie.

The day resulted in an impressive fundraising total. Sue Coombes, Honorary Secretary of RNLI Stourbridge Branch, said:

"The auction was amazing - £680.00 raised which just goes to show how dedicated and generous you and your supporters are.

There was also £66.87 in the buckets which brought the total for the day to £746.87 and the grand total to £9,226.25 - absolutely fantastic.

We are very, very grateful - although the busy summer period is over, the RNLI's volunteer crews will still be on call 24/7 over the forthcoming Christmas and New Year period when most people in the UK will be busy enjoying themselves. Thanks to you and your continued support they will be able to answer the calls in the best boats and with the best gear and training possible thus keeping themselves safe as they help others in trouble at sea.

Thank you again - the RNLI's crews really couldn't do what they do without you - this is where the rescue starts."

Special thanks to everyone who came and supported the day and to our guests and all those others who donated items to the auction, especially our friends at the Doctor Who Restoration Team and Network DVD who kindly supplied multiple items.

Full details of the event's line-up can be found in the Kaleidoscope Archives, including a full list of auction lots.
