Kaleidoscope Events in March and June 2005

Thanks to everyone who supported us at our previous events in 2005. The first Kaleidoscope event of the year took place on Saturday 12th March 2005 and a great time was had by all.

Programming highlights included Mr Palfrey of Westminster, Enemy at the Door, The Bill, Noggin the Nog and the first public airing of Dennis Potter's play Shaggy Dog since Kaleidoscope rediscovered it recently.

Our guests, Michael Chapman and Peter Cregeen kept us thoroughly entertained throughout the day and were joined by an unexpected surprise guest, director Michael Simpson, or "the interloper" as he called himself! These three friends and former colleagues made for an exceptional guest panel which filled two hours easily and kept the audience enthralled with stories of the industry from decades past to the more recent past.

The event started the year's fundraising drive well, raising an impressive £69.94 for our nominated charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. This total represented a great start to the year and the event itself proved highly enjoyable, with one of our most successful and interesting guest panels ever.

Our second event was on Saturday 11th June 2005 and proved very popular and successful with an enthusiastic audience. Guests Pamela Lonsdale and Reginald Collin kept everyone entertained talking about their celebrated careers, and enjoyed being at the event every bit as much as the attendees did!

Screenings included the two Shadows and Dramarama plays "Dutch Schlitz's Shoes" and "Mr Stabs", both spin-offs from Ace of Wands, and other classic children's programming including Rainbow and the surviving episodes of ABC's 1968 version of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Other highlights included Special Branch, The Mind of Mr J G Reeder, The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town and the Callan Meets Father Dear Father sketch which truly has to be seen to be believed...

Building on our first total, this event raised £77.76 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Sue Coombes, Honorary Secretary of RNLI Stourbridge Branch, said "We are very grateful and really do appreciate your continued support which will go to help the RNLI's volunteer lifeboat crews continue to save lives at sea."

Many thanks from all of us to everyone who came, and gave so generously.
