Kaleidoscope Mailing List

What is it?

Founded in October 1996, the Kaleidoscope Mailing List (also known, for obscure historical reasons, as mailkaleidos) is a long-established channel for online information and currently has over two hundred subscribers.

Basically, the list serves a dual purpose: firstly, it enables members to remain fully up to date with Kaleidoscope's activities throughout the year. Subscribers will automatically receive any Kaleidoscope news, announcements and information, usually before it is published anywhere else.

The other role of the Kaleidoscope Mailing List is as a forum for debate and discussion on classic British television in general, so if you are desperate to find an answer to that burning question, want to show off your knowledge to the world or just meet some like-minded enthusiasts, then being on our list is a good place to start!

Why is the list moderated - does this mean it is it censored?

Although the list is technically moderated, this moderation generally extends only to the elimination of any spam postings which may have slipped through or rogue bounce messages; the list maintainer will only censor or kill postings if they are likely to be severely objectionable to the majority of list members, and even then this action will only be taken as a last resort. So far in the entire life-span of the list to date, this has never become necessary.

Does this mean I can post anything I like?

Generally speaking, any postings are welcome as long as they remain on-topic to the list (either related to classic television or Kaleidoscope for example). Certain topics and actions will, however, be frowned upon both by the moderator and other list members; binary postings and persistent spamming of any type are not permitted. This is not a video trading list, so no posting of requests for old TV programmes on tape, please. If you encounter problems with any aspect of the mailing list, then please contact the list maintainer directly rather than posting to the list itself.

So how do I join?

To subscribe to the list via the Web, simply click this button:

To subscribe by email, send a blank email message to mailkaleidos-subscribe@yahoogroups.com and your request will be processed automatically. For security reasons Yahoo! Groups have to cross-check every such request as originating from a valid email address, so you will receive an email asking whether you wish to confirm your subscription. Simply reply to this and you will then be subscribed to the mailing list.

How do I post to the list?

To post to the Kaleidoscope Mailing List, you should send your messages to mailkaleidos@yahoogroups.com and they will be sent out automatically to the other members once approved by the list moderator. Please try to observe the general guidelines above and remain on-topic when posting to the list.
