Kaleidoscope Collaborate With Network On Classic Television DVDs

Early in 2004, Kaleidoscope entered into an agreement with the innovative video and DVD company Network, to advise on and contribute to a number of their classic television DVD releases.
First up was an old Kaleidoscope favourite, Public Eye, making its first ever foray onto home video. Long overdue, but better late than never! Network have put together a sumptuous three-disc set containing the entire fourth series of this unique detective series, all digitally restored to a peak of excellence, plus "Nobody Kills Santa Claus" from the ABC years. Rounding off the set is an entire disc of extra material and a lavish commemorative booklet.
Among our contributions to this set are the sole surviving extract from "It Must Be The Architecture - Can't Be The Climate" (recovered by Kaleidoscope in the 1990s), extracts from a previously unseen interview with Alfred Burke we recorded in 1995, an episode guide and filmographies for Alfred Burke and Roger Marshall compiled by Chris Perry and Simon Coward, and a fully updated version of Adrian Petford's Hitting the Marker article. We also assisted with acquiring the images for the photo gallery.
Sales of this first set were very good for such a specialist interest title (In fact Network's Tim Beddows attributed the sales figures largely to Kaleidoscope's efforts at publicising the release!) and the fifth series (again with contributions from us) followed on quickly. As well as the episode guide and filmographies (Alfred Burke, Roger Marshall, Michael Chapman and Ray Smith) compiled by Chris Perry and Simon Coward, we contributed a special presentation of the Series Two ABC episode "Twenty Pounds of Heart and Muscle", missing from the archives and only surviving as an off-air audio soundtrack recovered by Kaleidoscope in the 1990s, restored for the DVD release by sound maestro Alan Hayes.
One of Kaleidoscope's researchers also contributed extensively to Press Gang - The Complete Second Series. After Network's best-selling but neccessarily vanilla release of Series One of this multiple award-winning youth drama, expectations were high for more extra content this time around, and Kaleidoscope's Adrian Petford was happy to advise what was out there, also bringing in a couple of other freelance researchers (and fellow Press Gang experts), contributing original television trailers and a contemporary review of Series One.
Well done to Network for these fine DVD releases that Kaleidoscope was proud to play a part in. We would also like to acknowledge the commitment and unceasing hard work of our our good friend Steve Rogers, without whom all of these releases would have been much the poorer.
Kaleidoscope's Adrian Petford also contributed to the remaining Press Gang DVD releases:
