Kaleidoscope Welcomed Juliet Harmer and David "Diddy" Hamilton in June 2008

Kaleidoscope was pleased to welcome two interesting and unusual guests to our summer event, David "Diddy" Hamilton and Juliet Harmer. In a remarkably varied career encompassing roles as diverse as continuity announcer, disc jockey, television presenter and match announcer for Fulham FC, David Hamilton has lots of memories of the industry going back decades. He talked at length about his time in the business, providing us with a highly entertaining appearance. Best known for her starring role as Georgina Jones in Adam Adamant Lives!, former actress Juliet Harmer still has enduring appeal many years later. She joined us on stage for an illustrated retrospective of her acting career and proved to be a charming and captivating guest. Examples of both guests' work was shown at the event throughout the day.

Other screening highlights included the first episode of Roger Marshall's Travelling Man in which the enigmatic Lomax began a desperate search for his missing son against the backdrop of England's canals, and supernatural chills with Dramarama: Spooky. The second viewing area showcased some of the programmes returned through the Raiders of the Lost Archive campaign of 2007 which Kaleidoscope supported. Alfred Burke, Eric Portman and Michael Gough appeared together in "The Last Reunion", an episode of ABC (ATV) Playhouse and Cliff Richard could be seen in an acting role in Playhouse - "A Matter of Diamonds". Mrs Wilson's Diary, with Nigel Hawthorne and On the Buses' Bob Grant and Stephen Lewis featured previously unseen footage.

We were also able to present a late addition to the programme in the form of Goodbye to ABC, the northern version of ABC Television's final programme, celebrating the work of the broadcaster. David Hamilton presented the programme and held the only surviving copy, on two inch videotape. Restored only a week before the event, Kaleidoscope were pleased to screen this programme to an audience for the first time since 1968. We would like to thank David Hamilton for his assistance in recovering this lost television treasure.

The event took place on Saturday 7th June 2008 and was again in support of our designated charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. £98.37 was raised on the day bringing the overal total raised by Kaleidoscope since 1994 to £9,446.41.

Sue Coombes, Honorary Secretary of RNLI Stourbridge Branch, said:
