3rd June 2007 Kaleidoscope's June 2007 Event Welcomed Director Mike Vardy Prolific director Mike Vardy joined Kaleidoscope for our summer event on Saturday 2nd June 2007. Mike has directed episodes of many classic series over several decades, including Callan, Mystery and Imagination, The Bill, The One Game and numerous one-off plays, including Armchair Theatre. Several examples of his work were on show throughout the event. Despite battling illness on the day, Mike Vardy was a hugely entertaining and interesting guest and we hope to have him back with us again in the future. Other highlights included an early episode of Spitting Image, a fascinating glimpse into the making of a legendary sitcom in Behind the Scenes on... Steptoe and Son, satirical music and humour with Wood and Walters and some great television rareties including The Inside Man, an LWT drama recently rediscovered by Kaleidoscope and the first reel of The Other Man, starring a young Michael Caine. The rest of this play has recently been completed thanks to a recovery through the Raiders of the Lost Archive campaign. The event continued our good year of fundraising for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Sue Coombes, Honorary Secretary of RNLI Stourbridge Branch, said: "Thank you for your efforts on behalf of the RNLI and its volunteer crews on Saturday, 2 June when £163.08 was raised bringing the total raised by Kaleidoscope and its supporters since 1994 to £8,289.78 - an amazing achievement.
