Kaleidoscope's March 2007 Event - A Poptastic Time Was Had By All
Pop pickers came from far and wide to help us celebrate the launch of our latest Research Guide, devoted to Top of the Pops. Kaleidoscope's March event had a musical theme with something for everyone. Famous acts from across the years were seen performing in classic shows such as Revolver, Thank Your Lucky Stars, Lift Off With Ayshea, Gastank, Get It Together, Shang-A-Lang and So It Goes.
There was still plenty of entertainment on offer though, if music wasn't your thing. How about some cutting satire in The Frost Report, or ATV's superb and rarely seen fantasy series Raven? Other long-unseen gems include a post-Doctor Who Elisabeth Sladen keeping the kids (of all ages!) entertained in Stepping Stones and the first edition of OTT, the controversial "adult Tiswas" show that caused a media furore on its debut.
The event took place on Saturday 3rd March 2007, between 12:00 - 7:00pm at our usual venue, Stourbridge Town Hall, Stourbridge, West Midlands, UK, and was once again in support of our designated charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, raising an very impressive £180.31 to kick off this year's fundraising effort.
Sue Coombes, Honorary Secretary of RNLI Stourbridge Branch, said:
"Apart from being a thoroughly enjoyable day, £180.31 was raised... which was absolutely fantastic - an excellent start to the season. For the records, this brings the total raised by Kaleidoscope since 1994 to £8,126.70. We are very grateful for your continued help.
Figures just published show that 2006 was the RNLI's busiest year with 8,377 launches and 8,015 people rescued by the RNLI's volunteer crews - its beach lifeguards also had a "record" year assisting 10,331 people on 62 beaches in the south of England and saving 63 lives. When asked to comment after a shout or being thanked for saving a life, crew members will invariably just say, "It's what we do", but they couldn't do it without your support. Thank you all very much indeed."
Thanks to everyone who came on the day and supported us. Further details of the event can be found here.
