Kaleidoscope's March Event - A Great Start to 2006
Kaleidoscope's first event of 2006 took place on Saturday 4th March and proved to be a great success. We had a brilliant guest in Ted Childs, who provided us with a fascinating live commentary on The Sweeney episode "Trojan Bus" - a first for our events - and an enthralling panel about his long and much-celebrated career. A couple of ultra-rare Inspector Morse crew items brought along by Ted were also auctioned and helped us reach an excellent total for our chosen charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. We are delighted to announce that £233.30 was raised on the day towards this worthy cause, which is one of our highest totals for an individual event and a great start to the year.
Sadly, both Verity Lambert and James Cellan Jones had to cancel their planned appearances at the event at short notice. Verity had been advised not to travel following a recent fall, and was particularly disappointed not to be able to attend. Both guests did join us later in the year, James in June and Verity in December.
Screening highlights on the day included cult favourite Adam Adamant Lives!, a behind the scenes look at Budgie, the end of our continuing Noggin the Nog tale, Cadfael and Frost On Sunday, in tribute to the late Ronnie Barker, which also featured Kenneth Williams.
Attendance at the event was particularly high, which was great to see as the first event of the year is traditionally our slowest. The new features we introduced following people's feedback last year - regular breaks, and a greater range of food and drink served from the bar with extended opening hours went down well and overall a good time was had by all.
Sue Coombes, Honorary Secretary of RNLI Stourbridge Branch, said: "It was good to see so many people there on Saturday. Together they helped the Kaleidoscope team to raise a fantastic total of £233.30 - please do pass on our sincere thanks to Ted for providing the two auction items and to everyone who donated so generously on the day. This brings the total raised by Kaleidoscope since 1994 to £6,089.92."
Thanks from all of us to everyone who came. Full details of the event can be found here.
