Record Breakers! Kaleidoscope's 2005 Total

Kaleidoscope crowned a phenomenal year of fundraising with our special seasonal event, Just In Time For Christmas..., which took place at Stourbridge Town Hall on Saturday 3rd December 2005. Once again in support of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the event - which also incorporated our annual Kaleidoscope Grand Charity Auction - smashed all previous records and brought Kaleidoscope's overall total raised for the RNLI since 1994 to £5856.62.

The event itself raised £1015.91, a new record for a single event and our total for the year was £1312.64, beating 2004's previous all-time high. The auction did phenomenally well, raising £589.00, also well in excess of the previous year's figure.

Thanks from all of us at Kaleidoscope to everyone who supported us on the day and gave so generously. It has truly been a spectacular year. Special appreciation also to all those who donated items for the auction and charity table. There was a much greater range of rare memorabilia and interesting television artefacts up for grabs this time and this was reflected by the higher sums raised.

Just In Time For Christmas... proved to be highly enjoyable, with the usual mix of Christmas-themed screenings, guests and some other special festive trimmings. Making her debut appearance at Kaleidoscope (hopefully the first of many) was the lovely Jenny Hanley who did a sterling job co-presenting the auction and made a wonderful guest. Later on, she was joined by Kaleidoscope favourite Tony Currie for a comprehensive, fun and often hilarious look back at her career.

We also announced the winner of the 50 Years of ITV Megaquiz at the event, which proved so fiendishly difficult that only three people managed to complete it!

Programme highlights included a festive mini-episode of Father, Dear Father, the final edition of Magpie introduced by Jenny Hanley and Christmas Day 1969 on Coronation Street.

Commenting on the day, Sue Coombes, Honorary Secretary of RNLI Stourbridge Branch, said:

"A wonderful achievement and one of which you can all be very proud - in fact, to give you an idea of what this would buy, it would be enough to kit out the entire crew of one of the RNLI's all weather lifeboats (the big £1m plus offshore ones) like the Trent class Blue Peter VII stationed at Fishguard.

We really do appreciate all you do for the lifeboat service - we know what a lot of time and effort goes into putting on your events which not only raise money for the RNLI but give a lot of pleasure and enjoyment to many, many people, ourselves included."
