Robert Banks Stewart at September 2006's Kaleidoscope Event

Kaleidoscope were pleased to welcome highly acclaimed writer and producer Robert Banks Stewart to Stourbridge Town Hall on 2nd September 2006 for a rare event appearance. In a long and celebrated career, Robert Banks Stewart has been responsible for such much-loved series as Shoestring and Bergerac, and contributed to many other classics including The Avengers, Doctor Who, Adam Adamant Lives!, Lovejoy, Callan and Undermind.

In one of Kaleidoscope's best ever guest appearances, Robert Banks Stewart talked about his career at length in a panel illustrated by a host of clips, and the programme line-up also included many complete examples of his work.

The day also featured a special presentation titled Swiped or Wiped?, to introduce Raiders of the Lost Archive, a new initiative to recover lost television material, which Kaleidoscope are supporting. This plethora of extracts from programmes all of which only partially exist included ABC's Hancock, The Liver Birds, Mystery and Imagination, The Hidden Truth, material from Mike and Bernie Winters, The Multi-Coloured Swap Shop and much more. A member of the ITV production team working on the project also joined us for a question and answer session.

Other treats on show at the event included Diana Rigg in Blood And Thunder - Women Beware Women, vintage Captain Pugwash from 1961, OTT, the "adult" Tiswas, deemed so controversial at the time that it has not been seen since its original transmission, It Must Be Love and Wings, two untransmitted Yorkshire Television comedy pilots, and Confession from the pen of Strangers and Bulman creator Murray Smith.

Admission to the event was free as usual, with voluntary donations welcome for our destignated charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Full details of the day's programme can be found here.
