Standing Room Only at Kaleidoscope's 50 Years of ITV Event

Many thanks to everyone who came and supported Kaleidoscope for 50 Years of ITV, our third event of 2005, which took place at Stourbridge Town Hall on Saturday 3rd September. As is fitting for such a landmark occasion, the day proved highly enjoyable and was a huge success.

We had a record attendance (so many that we were having to add additional rows of seats while the screenings were running) for these smaller events, and lots of new faces evident, who we hope to see again many times in the future. This was reflected in the fundraising total, with an excellent £149.03 raised for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution throughout the day.

Chris Fonteyn, Chairman of RNLI Stourbridge Branch, said:

"Such continued support is much appreciated, and we are most grateful to all concerned. Please pass on our warm and sincere thanks. The relationship between the RNLI and Kaleidoscope is certainly valued, and we wish the team continued success in all its endeavours."

Our two guests, eminent director Christopher Hodson and returning Kaleidoscope favourite Tony Currie, were tremendous. Chris could have very easily held the audience enthralled, on his own, all afternoon with many hilarious anecdotes from his career alongside a fascinating insight into the technical processes of the industry from decades past. Tony also really delivered with an all-new fun presentation put together specially for Kaleidoscope, titled Ident Heaven. Such a comprehensive collection of idents both common and obscure has rarely been seen, and we are sure that all present will remember to salute every time they see the classic colour ATV ident in future!

The event's extended running time made for a packed programme line-up in both viewing areas, the highlights of which included the Opening Night of ITV, an episode of Pathfinders In Space, Strangers, Opportunity Knocks, Upstairs Downstairs, The Organization, Weaver's Green and Spindoe. Our screening of very rare first series episodes of The Avengers - "Girl on a Trapeze" in its entirety, plus all the surviving footage from the first ever episode, "Hot Snow" - proved massively popular.

Many thanks to everyone who came on the day for your enthusiasm and generosity. Seeing that level of support makes running these events worthwhile and is a totally humbling experience. If this is the shape of things to come, then the events are assured of a great future.
