This report contains conjecture on my part about about what I saw of the filming, some of which will be spoilers for the fifth season finale, Motherhood. There are also explicit spoilers about both the transmitted version of Motherhood and scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor. Spoiler-sensitive people should perhaps proceed with care.
All of the photographs featured in this report were taken on public land which was openly accessible at the time. Please be aware that if you wish to explore a location in private ownership, you will need to obtain permission from the landowner first. It is an offence to trespass on private property without permission.
If, like me, you are lucky enough to encounter a film crew, please remember that, however exciting it may be for you as a fan, they are all there doing their ordinary job of work. If you want to watch, keep a respectful distance and do not distract them or otherwise interfere with their activities, as it is hugely expensive to film out on location. Be prepared to move on if you are asked to, and respect their other requests, such as to remain quiet while filming is in progress.
The contents of this report and all photographs are my own work; copyright rests entirely with myself. In posting this material to the Internet, I merely wish to share the thrilling experience I had of actually seeing Xena: Warrior Princess in production with other fans of the series. No motive for commercial gain of any kind is present - this is a strictly non-profit making fan site and I will take appropriate action against any individual or publication found to be reusing this material for profit and/or without my express permission. You have been warned!
I would like to gratefully acknowledge the invaluable assistance of Steven Ellis and Neil McLeod, without whom this feature would not have been possible. Special thanks to Bevis King, Ann Reddecliffe and CR, without whom my knowledge of the locations would be much the poorer. Thanks also to Maureen Hayden and Judi Mair for additional information. Kevin Smith graciously gave a few minutes of his time to talk to me about the filming of Motherhood. This filming report is dedicated to his memory.
